But what about gaming performance? Can the Athlon really drub Intel in actual 3D gaming application? To find out , I installed Half-Life and proceeded test how many framerates the Athlon can crank up in the timedemo, compared to Pentium III.

Again, I ran 3Finger’s Half-life timedemo three times in each platform and averaged the results.

And here’s what I got:

Here, the Athlon cranked up effectively about four frames more than the Pentium III running at the same speed. Having used both K6-2's and Pentium based computers, it's a strange experience to see an AMD processor beat Intel this much.
