Test
Results: Business Application Performance To test the comparative performance of the two processors in common business applications, we used the ZD Winstone 99 business benchmark suite. We made a clean install of Windows 98 SE in each test platform and followed with the installation of the ZD Winstone 99 benchmark. The test was run three times on each platform and the results averaged. The results show that indeed, AMD's Athlon has the wares to outclass the Pentium III. There can be no doubt, Athlon is the Real McCoy, showing that it really outmuscle Pentium III in integer performance. But the K6-2 and the K6-3 had earlier also shown they can hold their own against a comparative Intel cpu in performance, with the latter even besting Pentiums at the same speed. If we take this competition like a boxing contest, AMD has shown it has all the skills of a good, well-trained pugilist. What it lacks to be a champion however, is brute power to knock out its opponent. And in terms of a cpu, thats the floating point capability. To find out, go to the next page. |
